2019 Chevrolet Silverado; Steel and Aluminum?

Body Structure

The Ford F-150 switched to an aluminum body in the model year 2015. Now, the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is up to 450 pounds lighter than the previous model through the use of mixed materials which includes aluminum.  Featuring fixed steel body components and aluminum swing panels (doors, hood, tailgate) the body is up to 88 pounds lighter.  After cutting and spreading on several aluminum F-150s, I found the aluminum doors were prone to skinning and the outer metal panel popping off the inner structure.

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is 450 pounds lighter due to the extensive use of mixed materials. The underlying safety cage features significant use of advanced high strength steels, each tailored for the specific application.
