The fine folks over at Coast Portland sent me their DX335 Rescue Knife to review. The last knife I reviewed from Coast Portland was the Coast Rapid Response Knife and I was really impressed. I first ran across the DX335 on the review that Model City Firefighter did. What caught my eye was the full serrated blade with a blunt tip. Perfect for cutting thru seat belts and wiring. Now if you are not a fan the blunt tip or the full serrated blade, the DX330 has a partially serrated with a drop-point blade.
As far as wear and tear, the knife holds up to that Benchmade/Emerson knife quality. I put the knife in a bunker pocket that had many other tools floating around inside. I did this to see how the knife would last getting handled in a pocket full of wrenches, wire, and cable cutters. Other than a little of the black finish of the textured aluminum handle wearing slightly it held up great to about 6 months of torture. I used the blade extensively to cut up out of service hose, seatbelts, wires, and all sorts of rubber sealing and it still cuts like day one.
The bottom line, for $32.99 it’s not a bad tool to have in your arsenal. If you search around the internet a little, you can find it for less than retail, Amazon had the knife for sale for $22. Plus, your knife is backed by Coast’s lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship.
