Magnesium Door Frame
Nearly 15 years ago, I designed a magnesium door frame for a lightweight version of a Ford vehicle to use for testing different materials. At that time, magnesium was too expensive to justify the weight saving it provided. Fast forward to 2016. The Front Door of the Porsche Panamera is made from Aluminium / magnesium in a high pressure die-casting. While the magnesium will not pose an issue during extrication, this is one more reason to wear full PPE at a vehicle fire.
